The Fort Smith Korean Presbyterian Church originally started as a small Bible study group at Harvest Time Tabernacle, Fort Smith, Arkansas. The group had grown up to an established official church on December 20, 1987 as the Fort Smith Korean Church(non Denomination) by pastor Rev. Byung-Mook Kim.

At the time he was working as a visiting scholar at University of Arkansas. In February 1988, when Rev. Kim completed his responsibilities as a visiting scholar, he had to return to South Korea. After his departure, Rev. Young-Sun Park stepped in to serve the Fort Smith Korean Church and registered the congregation under the Southern Baptist Church.

In 2001 many conflicts began to arise and most members of the congregation decided to join the Central Presbyterian Church.  Fortunately, Elder Chul-Nam Lee from Binnerri Presbyterian Church (PCUSA) Richardson, TX, and Pastor Se-Hyun Park from South Korea were kind enough to serve the church as interim speakers.

Rev. Se-Hyun Park returned to South Korea and starting in June 2002, Rev. Byung-Mook Kim returned to Arkansas and decided to finish what he had started in 1987.
