Sanctuary
Our sanctuary is classic English Colonial architecture,
with clean, simple lines that point toward the worship of Almighty God.
The center of the chancel is the baptismal font and the communion table,
which remind us of the sacraments of God's grace.
The sanctuary seats around 350 worshippers and is wheelchair accessible.
It features one of the best-voiced organs in our community. April of 2004
will bring the observance of the 50th anniversary of the construction of
this sanctuary. In preparation for this observance, some improvements are
going to be made during the Fall of 2003 and Winter and Spring of 2004.
Rebsamen Chapel
Rebsamen Memorial Chapel is open daily to provide the community a place to
come for personal meditation, prayer and reflection. It is located
on the East side of the church building between the church and the
administration building.
Library
The church library is available for use when the church building is open, which is
nearly everyday. This serves the congregation as a meeting space as well
as a collection of religious literature for the edification of the
community of faith. This collection includes several different
translations of the Bible as well as Bible commentaries, and materials for
Biblical interpretation, inspiration, devotion, spiritual development and
formation, Christian guidance, fiction and non-fiction.
There is a section for young readers and a
video collection featuring Veggie Tales and Bible studies. There is also a
section of training and support materials for our Stephen Ministry. All of
these may be borrowed from the library. Anne Clarke, the church librarian,
works on Friday mornings if you need assistance.
The Ella
Leavitt Classroom
This is a large room that can be divided. It has a small organ and a piano, a
black board, and is furnished with chairs that can be arranged as needed.
On Sunday mornings an adult Sunday School class meets here. At 11 a.m. on
Sunday the Korean Fellowship worships in this room.
Wilkinson
Parlor
This well-appointed room can be divided for multiple functions and
features a homey arrangement of chairs and a fireplace. There is also a
buffet table and serving pieces and is next to a small kitchen.
On Sunday mornings the Westminster adult Sunday School class meets here.
On Tuesday and Thursday evenings a 12-step group gathers here. On Wednesday
afternoons the parlor is used for yoga and contemplative prayer.
The parlor is available for small weddings, receptions, anniversary
celebrations, and other events in the life of the church.
Fellowship Hall/Gymnasium
This large room is designed for multiple uses. It features a stage
with lighting and sound, basketball court with goals that can be dropped
from the ceiling, a full-function coffee bar with ice/water machine, and a
full institutional-sized kitchen with traditional, convection, and
micro-wave ovens, and a large Hobart-equipped dishwasher area. The
moveable chairs and tables make this the place for fellowship dinners,
Kirk and Lent Night meals, congregational meetings, and a plethora of
other activities.
This room is used on Sunday mornings for fellowship, and Sunday noon for
the weekly meal shared by the Korean Fellowship. During the week Boy Scout
Troop 110 uses the hall on Monday evenings, and most days the Child
Development Center uses it for recreational and educational activities.
The Fellowship Hall is available for use by non-profit concerns for
activities and events, and for others for a small janitorial fee. Please
check with the church office to learn of the availability of this room.
Choir Room
This large practice room has permanent risers, moveable chairs, coffee
bar, water fountain, choir director's office, closets for choir robes, and
individual lockers for use by choir members. The standing grand piano
accompanies the choir during rehearsals. The room, which can be divided,
also houses the handbells, tables, sheet music, and stands used by the
Chancel Handbell Choir for its rehearsals.
This room is often used on Sunday morning for the Workshop Rotation
Classes, and during the week for classes and instruction.
Community
House
Through the Central Presbyterian Church Community House, God has
blessed our congregation with the opportunity to extend Christian
hospitality to sisters and brothers from other parts of the country.
This facility is equipped with two full bathrooms, and because it is also
furnished with bunk beds in two rooms, the Community House is able to
accommodate 16 people rather comfortably. In addition to a living area
with a piano, a television (no cable, however), and VCR, the Community
House also has a nice kitchen area, as well as a washer and dryer.
Sheets, towels and laundry soap are provided.
Groups associated with Habitat for Humanity have frequently utilized the
Community House in making their gracious contributions to our city, and
groups of students from local colleges have used this facility for
orientation weekends.
The Community House has certainly provided a vehicle through which our
fellow human beings can build significant relationships that not only
transcend race and religion, but also respond to the needs, hurts, and
interests of all people.
